Leeds' hopes rise on potential saviour

Shares in Premier League football club Leeds United leaped by 40% in London this morning on renewed hopes of a cash injection.

This morning's Mirror newspaper reported that Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Mubarak Al-Khalifa had raised £35m (€50.8m) to buy the club and invest in new players.

But it is unclear whether the money will be enough to save the club, which is around £80m (€116m) in debt. Leeds' creditors have given it until Monday to find new sources of finance.

If the club does not come up with a feasible financing arrangement, it is widely expected to become the first club in England's élite Premier League to go into administration
