Boots sheds 900 jobs at head office

Healthcare retail giant Boots is to axe 900 job cuts from its head office in Nottingham, England.

The job losses are part of a savings plan called ‘Getting into Shape’ which will see £100m (€144m) cut from operational expenses by 2006.

Boots also announced that it will invest £5m (€7.23m) of these savings in new stores, creating up to 290 retail jobs over the next 12 months.

Around 3,000 staff are employed at the head office in the English midlands.

The company employs around 1,200 staff throughout 30 stores in Ireland.

Late last year, Boots said it would invest €43m in Ireland and open another 13 retail outlets within three years.
