Manchester United were today unveiling their first set of financial results since the departure of chief executive Peter Kenyon for Premiership rivals Chelsea.

In recent weeks the club have been at the centre of speculation regarding a potential takeover by US billionaire Philip Anschutz, who also owns the Tampa Bay Buccaneers American football team.

Mr Kenyon, who famously claimed to be a “life-long United fan” joined the Old Trafford side five years ago from sports manufacturer Umbro.

The club, who have played down the speculation about Anschutz, replaced Kenyon with fellow board director David Gill.

In April, Manchester United reported a 34% fall in first half profits despite being boosted by more games and higher television revenues.

But analysts were expecting full-year pre-tax profits of around £47.5m (€68.2m) compared with £33.9m (€48.7m) previously.
