Low cost airline unveils new route
A new air link between Belfast and the north of England was announced today.
bmibaby is to start flying a daily service between Belfast International Airport and Teesside in October – with tickets going on sale from this Friday with fares from £12.50 (€18) one way including tax and insurance.
The airline also announced that from next month it would be increasing its service between Belfast and East Midlands to three times a day.
It also said that in its first month of operation its Manchester service carried over 12,000 passengers.
The new route to Teesside and the increased frequency to East Midlands will mean bmibaby will be flying eight flights a day from Belfast International to its UK bases – Cardiff, East Midlands, Manchester and Teesside.
Tony Davis, managing director of bmibaby, said: “Belfast is one of our top routes and it’s set to get even bigger.
“Our Manchester service has been a resounding success and it’s fair to say that we have high hopes for our new North East base.”
A spokesman for Belfast International said: “This is a further strengthening of the growing relationship between Belfast International and bmibaby.”
He said it “fulfils another section of our strategy to bring true low cost services to all the major commercial centres in the UK from Belfast International Airport for the benefit of the Northern Ireland business and leisure traveller.”
