Teagasc predicts doom and gloom for dairy farmers
The Farm advisory service Teagasc is predicting that almost half the country's dairy farmers will go out of business within the next ten years.
Teagasc economist Thia Hennessy has said this afternoon that those who stay will be better off because of increased milk output, while those who leave will benefit from improved EU payments.
She claims the EU proposals to reform the Common Agriculture Policy will lead to the decline in numbers in dairying.
