Cruise holidays seem to be finally shaking off their “elderly” image, according to a new survey in the UK.

Taking a cruise trip proved the most popular with 16-24 year olds and least popular with the over-55s, the survey from the Island Cruises holiday company showed.

Scots were the biggest cruise fans, the survey of 2,000 adults across the UK showed.

The findings were:

:: 66% of 16-24 year olds would be interested in taking a cruise.

:: Only 42% of over-55s said they were interested.

:: 73% of over-55s were keen on a relaxed, informal type of cruise.

:: 60% of Scots fancied a cruise holiday – the highest percentage in the UK.
