Poor managers 'main reason people quit jobs'

Most people quit their jobs because they are sick of their boss rather than unhappy about their pay or career prospects, according to new research.

Personality clashes or general dissatisfaction with managers are the biggest reasons for resignations.

A report by the British Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development claims good workers are often forced to leave because of weak management.

"A lot is written about bullying managers, but more frequently the problem is just poor managers," said the report.

it also claims staff are too often appointed to management positions with little thought about their management skills and often promoted just because they are good at their present job.

Firms spend billions of pounds every year replacing workers they would rather have kept, according to the report.
