Dublin's ISEQ index followed the gloomy worldwide trend and closed 23.54 points lower at 4,055.34.

Shares in Bank of Ireland were down 14c at 10.47 after an Australian stockbroker predicted that National Australia Bank could be the next possible merger partner for BoI.
