Elan to lay off 45 part-time workers
Troubled Irish pharmaceutical company Eland has announced plans to lay-off 45 part-time workers at its plant in Athlone, Co Westmeath.
The company said the lay-offs were a necessary part of its restructuring plans.
Elan, which has its headquarters in Dublin, was Ireland’s largest publicly traded company until it lost more than 75% of its market share earlier this year.
The job losses were announced at lunchtime today, just before the company closed for its annual two-week holiday. Elan currently employs 900 people in Athlone.
