SMF's technology is licensed by LEM
SMF Technologies [Dublin:STC.I, London:STC.L] which specialises in electrical current measurement technology and devices, has signed an agreement to license it patented current measurement technology to LEM Holding SA["LEMZnS"] of Switzerland.
Following the signing of the Joint Product Development Agreement in August 2001, and the formal evaluation of SMF's technology, LEM has concluded that this is a significant advance in AC [alternating current] measurement technology.
LEM will use it in applications and equipment for power quality, process automation, railway power and signalling sensors, as well as for rectifier current monitoring in electrochemical plants. LEM intends to introduce several new products shortly, which will incorporate the SMF technology, under its 'PRIME' LEM brand.
This technology has global market potential and could potentially replace the traditional CT [current transformer] medium for measuring AC currents. It is not bandwidth-limited, is more cost-effective, lighter and as accurate as CT.
SMF Technologies, based in Limerick, licences Intellectual property and develops electronic products for the measurement of electrical current in high and low voltage environments and the measurement of distance using ultrasonic techniques. The company' s shares are quoted on the Developing Companies Market [DCM] in Dublin and on the Alternative Investment Market [AIM] in London.
