Insurance industry defends 25% hike in premiums

The insurance industry has defended increases in motor premiums of up to 25%.

The Insurance Industry Federation has said the Government’s failure to tackle road safety and an increase in the level of insurance awards have necessitated the price hikes.

During a Dail committee meeting today, Fine Gael’s Charlie Flanagan accused insurance companies of operating a cartel and of ripping off young drivers.
