In a deal worth around $5m to IONA, Boeing Commercial Airplanes [BCA] has issued a statement of Direction naming IONA's Orbix E2A as a preferred integration technology.

BCA, which represents about 60% of Boeing, has signed an enterprise development and run-time licence agreement with IONA for use of both the Orbix E2A Web Services Integration Platform and the Orbix E2A Application Server Platform.

"IONA has been at the core of Commercial Airplanes integration initiatives for more than six years," said Dave Moore, Director, System Integration, Boeing Commercial Airplane Information Systems.

"Since our initial project in 1995, we have continued to extend IONA's technology throughout our organisation to support a wide range of integration projects, including e-business initiatives."

IONA's Orbix E2A integration technology has been very well received since it was launched at the beginning of November. Since then IONA's share price has risen 78% on the Nasdaq from 13.08 to 23.25 at close of business on Tuesday.
