The European Central Bank left its key interest rate unchanged today, deciding that the fight against inflation remained more important than propping up the region’s struggling businesses.

The European Central Bank left its key interest rate unchanged today, deciding that the fight against inflation remained more important than propping up the region’s struggling businesses.

Most economists had predicted that the bank would leave rates alone because of Monday’s confirmation that inflation within the 12 countries that share the euro common currency had reached 3.4%, an eight-year high.
