No danger of power shortage - O'Rourke

The Minister for Public Enterprise has insisted that there is enough electricity to cope with the increasing demand for energy as a result of our economic boom.

Mary O'Rourke was responding in the Dail to claims by the opposition that a shortage of power could undermine the Celtic Tiger.

Fine Gael said that certain parts of the country, particularly Cork, are facing an imminent electricity and gas shortage.

However, Minister O'Rourke dismissed the claim, saying there was no danger of any shortage in the foreseeable future.
