Celebrity focused broadcasting adds to Laura Whitmore's profits
One of Ireland’s most successful broadcasters operating abroad, Ms Whitmore is reaping the dividends from high-profile work with MTV, BBC, Channel 4, and ITV in the UK.
New accounts show the presenter enjoyed a bumper year last year with the cash pile at Laura Whitmore Ltd rising by £152,479, or 70%, from £216,996 to £369,476 (€521,286) in the 12 months to the end of last March.
During the same period, the company’s accumulated profits increased by £131,879 or 67% from £196,559 to £328,438. The lucrative 2014 and 2015 that Ms Whitmore has enjoyed reflects the 30-year-old’s meteoric rise in the UK showbusiness industry.
At the end of March 2012, Ms Whitmore’s firm’s accumulated profits stood at £20,648 with cash of £26,982 showing that her profits have increased 15-fold in the space of three years with her cash pile increasing 13-fold during the same period.
The Wicklow-born presenter began her work on the 2015 edition of the top-rated ITV show I’m a Celebrity… at the weekend.
She has worked on the show, which attracts millions of viewers, since 2011. Earlier this year, she announced that she was leaving MTV News after a seven-year stint at the helm of the show but would continue to work at MTV on other projects.
She studied journalism at Dublin City University, where she edited a magazine and worked as a researcher for Newstalk. In 2008, she beat 3,000 hopefuls to win a role with MTV News.
Reporting from music and film festivals around the world, she has interviewed some of the biggest names in showbusiness including Robert Downey Jr, Justin Bieber, George Clooney, and Coldplay. Last year, she was very much in demand to MC shows and events including the IFTAs.
“At the end of the day, as much as I enjoy it, it’s a job,” she said recently, adding she wants to do more live TV and host bigger shows.
