‘Love/ Hate’ production firm profits dip to €242k

The multi-award-winning production company behind the Love/ Hate phenomenon, Octagon Films was sitting on accumulated profits of €242,365 at the end of last year.

Octagon also produced the RTÉ hit series and the eagerly-anticipated drama, Clean Break, which will be screened later this year.

The firm has also been involved in the production of the international hit, Penny Dreadful and the hit movie, Calvary starring Brendan Gleeson, Chris O’Dowd and Kelly Reilly.

Newly-filed accounts for the company show that its accumulated profits dropped from €269,244 to €242,365 in the 12 months to the end of September 2014.

The managing director of the firm is James Flynn while one of the best known names of the Irish movie world, Morgan O’Sullivan, also sits on the board.

The performance of Octagon Films Ltd is not representative of Octagon’s overall business as it sets up a number of special purpose companies for its projects.

A subsidiary, Octagon Films International Ltd recorded profits of €93,456 in its first year of operation in the 12 months to the end of April of last year.

Since Octagon Films was established over 16 years ago, it has produced over 70 feature films and TV series.

Octagon Films produced Love, Rosie, a €16m movie adaptation of Cecilia Ahern’s Where Rainbows End while Paul Murray’s acclaimed novel, Skippy Dies is under development with a script written by Love/Hate writer, Stuart Carolan.
