Collison brothers up for entrepreneurial awards

As founders of online payments company Stripe, which is now valued at over $3.5bn (€3.08bn), the Collisons are among Ireland’s brightest and most successful entrepreneurs, with the company having landed major deals with the likes of Apple and Twitter.

The brothers are joined in the international category by former Dragons’ Den star Sean O’Sullivan of SOSVentures and Frank Madden of Crest Solutions.

With a combined workforce of more than 5,000 people and turnover of €1.5bn, 24 businesses were selected as finalists across three categories: Emerging, industry, and international.

“The programme continues to unearth companies that are excelling on a remarkable scale and this year’s programme has attracted an exceptionally high calibre of entrepreneur.

“It is particularly heartening to see the diversity within this year’s shortlist, including a number of strong female candidates and entrepreneurs under the age of 30,” said Kevin McLoughlin of EY.

Among those in the industry category are Michael O’Dwyer of TyreCheck and Cartoon Salon’s Nora Twomey. Alan Coleman of Dublin-based Brite:Bill is among the emerging category finalists, along with Dave O’Flanagan of big data analytics company Boxever.

The award winners will be announced in October.
