The spoils of moving first are now falling to Waterford start-up nearForm. Four years ago it was the first company in Europe to embrace an untried new internet technology called Node.js — now it’s becoming a leading supplier of this technology globally.

The spoils include an annual growth rate of 100%, some major brands as customers, and the freedom to expand globally without outside investment, as well as a multi-million-euro turnover.

The technology, explains nearForm chief executive and co-founder Cian O’ Maidin, is one which allows large companies compete more effectively on the internet against smaller firms that are using using cutting-edge technologies. “It empowers teams of software programmes to build faster, more stable, more versatile business platforms for large enterprises.”
