Based in a bespoke building on CIT’s campus, the Rubicon Centre has been at the forefront of providing a campus and award winning programmes for budding entrepreneurs for the past 16 years.
The centre acts as a focal point for early entrepreneurs who want to take their business to the next stage while also offering office space for rent to private companies.
More than 300 companies have graduated from Rubicon Centre business programmes in the past 16 years, leading to the creation of over 2,600 jobs.
Paul Healy, the centre’s manager, and his team of innovation specialists continuously help to develop some of Ireland’s leading innovative businesses, with many recognised for their achievements on both domestic and international levels.
The Rubicon offers a variety of programmes which span all sectors from the PINC programme for female entrepreneurs with an early business idea to the New Frontiers programme for high potential start-ups and Exxcel, a brand new programme for females in the STEM sectors.
The Centre also provides important links to CIT’s HINCKS and Nimbus Centres which provide entrepreneurs with further supports in research, learning and industry with exciting plans afoot for 2015 which will see the Centre team up with a UK body to offer easier access to entrepreneurs looking to enter the UK market.
2014 has been one of the most successful years to date for the Centre with a number of course participants and graduate companies receiving notable awards including Technically Write IT, Treemetrics, and Learnlode all scooping major IT@Cork awards as well as Myles Murray, PMD Solutions, who was a national finalist for Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneurs.
With partners such as the Local Enterprise Office, Enterprise Ireland, AIB and an alliance with a team of angel investors, the Rubicon Centre has helped companies attract over 100million in investment over the last 16 years through its programmes with 70% of its graduate companies still in existence — a figure that bucks all international trends in relation to start-up survival rates.
