€1.5m deal with IRFU in bag as profits at Heaslip’s firm top €60,000 last year

Accumulated profits at the firm owned by Leinster and Irish rugby star Jamie Heaslip last year topped €60,000.

Last week, the IRFU broke its pay structure to keep the Leinster No 8 in Ireland after he signed a new deal believed to worth more than €1.5m over three years.

Now, new figures show that the cash pile at Heaslip’s firm, Sabra Management Ltd increased almost 20-fold to €39,090 in the 12 months to the end of Jun 30, 2013.

In accounts recently filed with the Companies Office, they show the firm’s accumulated profits increased marginally from €58,310 to €60,168.

The value of the firm’s investments last year totalled €20,000 compared to €95,000 in 2012.

The accounts show that the firm was owed €24,279 by debtors at the end of June last year, with the company owing €21,945 in PAYE/PRSI and €3,050 in VAT with no corporation tax owed.

The firm’s shareholder funds totalled €60,268.

The 30-year-old’s business interests include a share in the expanding Jo-Burger firm that includes Dublin restaurants Crackbird and Skinflint.

The new landmark deal with the IRFU will keep the Naas native in Ireland until 2017, with the deal allowing the player to keep control of his image rights and receive a retainer.

Heaslip signed the deal after spurning advances from French side Toulon.

The forward has been capped 60 times by Ireland and has five test caps with the Lions and was part of the winning Lions squad in Australia last summer.

Heaslip took over the Irish captaincy from Brian O’Driscoll last year and was replaced as captain by Paul O’Connell after new coach, Joe Schmidt was appointed.

Heaslip has won a Grand Slam with Ireland as well as three Heineken Cups, an Amlin Challenge Cup and two league titles with Leinster.
