Public to have say on Food Harvest 2020 analysis report
Mr Coveney has also launched a public consultation on the preparation of a sectoral low carbon roadmap for agriculture.
In April 2012, his department appointed independent external consultants to undertake an analysis and prepare a report on the likely environmental impacts which might arise from the implementation of the Food Harvest 2020 targets.
Mr Coveney said that the outcome of this analysis will be important in informing the development of future agricultural policy and the sectoral ambition as envisaged under Food Harvest 2020.
Submissions are invited on the draft report, which is available at exa.mn/xo.
Mr Coveney said an outline Heads of Climate Action and Low Carbon Bill has been published by the Environment, Community, and Local Government Minister, Phil Hogan.
The outline provides that a sectoral roadmap for agriculture will be developed as part of a process leading to a National Low Carbon Roadmap.
Mr Coveney said that his department has initiated work on preparing the sectoral roadmap and also invites submissions in this regard.
The outline of the Heads of Bill may be found at exa.mn/xp.
Submissions, not exceeding 10 pages in length, should be emailed to envanalysis@agriculture. gov.ie, or by post to Climate Change Section, Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Johnstown Castle Estate, Wexford.
The deadline for receipt of submissions is Nov 11.
