Departing chief insists Trend Micro has no plans to leave Ireland
Mr O’Mara said that speculation of this sort was wildly off the mark and that Trend Micro was committed to its Cork base.
“There is no threat to the Cork operation,” said Mr O’Mara. “Trend Micro is safely anchored in Cork. The Irish operation is the poster child in Trend in how to run global operations.”
Despite stepping down from the lead role, Mr O’Mara is remaining in a non-executive role in Trend Micro EMEA.
Mr O’Mara decided to step down from his executive duties almost seven years to the day since he was appointed the European head of operations. During his tenure, he has overseen huge changes in the company’s operations.
“The organisation has changed a lot during my time at the helm,” he said. “We built the operations centre in Ireland which became the strategic backbone of the business, and we grew our European footprint from five sales offices to 26.
“The change to cloud-era security was a real turning point for me; we changed our routes to market and cemented the role distribution and channel played for us right across Europe, Middle East, and Africa. These partnerships and the model we established during this time will be the hallmark of this business well into the future.”
Mr O’Mara said the skills he has learned during his tenure at the top of Trend Micro will now be used to help Irish start-ups.
“I have been working on and off with a number of Irish companies,” he said. “ I have a number of non-executive positions, so I am hoping to build something out of that.”
