The project, at the IDA Industrial Estate in Carrigtwohill, is set to create 125 construction jobs and 200 permanent jobs upon completion.

Full construction is due to begin during the first quarter of next year, with completion planned for 2015. Initial work on the 110,000sq ft facility began in July.

The San Diego-headquartered company develops and commercialises ischemic rescue therapies, which counteract restrictions of blood supply to bodily tissue.

The Cork office will serve as the company’s European headquarters and its sales and manufacturing base for its therapies for haemorraghic shock and sickle cell disease.

“We are delighted that our planning application has now been formally submitted to Cork County Council,” said Dr Walter Matzmorr, Sangart Ireland vice-president. “It’s a significant milestone for the project team and we very much look forward to progressing our exciting plans in partnership with our project management team and other key stakeholders.”

Jacobs Engineering has been appointed by Sangart to perform the engineering, procurement and construction management for the facility. Cork-based DPS Engineering will perform the commissioning and qualification work.
