The new Irish Water company is expected to install 1.05m water meters and have a fully functional utility up and running by the end of 2016.

Whether this timeframe is realistic depends on meeting a series of strict deadlines over the next couple of years.

“We are conscious of the scale of this, but it has been planned in great detail,” says group director of corporate affairs at Bord Gáis, Larry Donald.
