Six firms set to create 100 jobs
ResMed, a British-based international industry leader in the development of medical products that combat sleep and breathing problems, has announced the expansion of its existing facility at University College Dublin through the addition of 50 jobs.
The company said that it sees “great opportunities” to grow its presence further in Ireland.
ResMed is currently based at NexusUCD, the university’s innovation partnerships centre.
Elsewhere, Cork-based Boole Investment Group, a technology-focused investment syndicate, has announced a €1m investment in five companies across Cork and Dublin.
The five companies — including Ethernet provider Mingoa, which is based at the National Software Centre in Mahon; and Dublin-based online booking and management software specialist Phorest — will receive a total of €3m in combined funding due to an additional €2m coming from Enterprise Ireland and other venture capitalists.
Another 49 jobs are being created in the five companies thanks to this investment.
Michael Culligan, national director of the Halo Business Angel Network (HBAN) which works in partnership with the Boole group, said: “There is a growing desire among investors to reinvest in young Irish businesses and give back some of the knowledge they picked up along the way.”
“We’re seeing increased investment in high potential start-ups this year, despite the wider economic downturn.
“We’re always looking to speak with potential new investors and introduce them to angel syndicates and investment opportunities.”
Boole’s Shemas Eivers paid tribute to HBAN and the Cork Business Innovation Centre for bringing investment leads to the fore and ensuring that they are a match for what his syndicate is looking for.
“This has also had the added benefit of increasing the chances of these start-ups receiving investment, as they have been pre-qualified with all the criteria checked and verified,” Mr Eivers said.
