Number of debt judgments on the decline

The number of court-registered debt judgments against businesses and consumers is falling, but public interest has doubled, says non-profit organisation Irish Judgments.

A non-profit organisation, Irish Judgments, which tracks debt judgments, says that the number of judgments at the Four Courts in Dublin registered against consumers fell from 2,535 in the first six months of 2011 to 2,071 in 2012 — an 18.3% decrease.

Judgments against businesses fell from 1,628 to 1,109 over the same period — a 31.9% drop.
