It looks increasingly unlikely that the Government will make a decision on which Oireachtas sub-committee will carry out the bank inquiry before the Dáil rises for summer recess on July 19.

Both the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and the Finance Committee are vying to conduct the probe into the collapse of the banking system.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny told the Dáil last week he supports an inquiry into the collapse, although he declined to say through which Oireachtas sub-committee.
