Markets turbulent on Spanish data

European share indices were mixed yesterday as a late spike in Spanish bond yields forced contagion and fear overEuropean sovereigns back centre stage.

Italian yields were also up in the afternoon. Stocks eased as a result and earlier gains were erased for the most part. The ISEQ index was 13.52 points weaker at 3,029.36.

Financials were among the hardest hit stocks with AIB shedding 1.5% of 0.1c to 6.5c. Bank of Ireland followed suit losing over 4% or 0.4c to finish at 9.3c while Permanent TSB Group remained steady at 3c. Insurer FBD Holdings was also a laggard, shipping 5c to €8.15.
