A solicitor and his wife were declared bankrupt in London yesterday just as a bank sought to have them questioned in the Dublin High Court over “alarming” discrepancies in statements about their assets.

Brian and Mary Patricia O’Donnell, of Gorse Hill, Vico Road, Killiney, Co Dublin, owe Bank of Ireland €75m for loans and guarantees on loans for investments and refinancing of other loans.

Mr Justice Peter Kelly heard yesterday from that the couple had claimed in the bankruptcy proceedings their main centre of business interest was Britain.
