The director of an independent, Irish-owned book chain claimed yesterday that Ryanair’s baggage allowance is having more of a negative impact on traditional book sales than ebooks.

O’Mahony’s Booksellers operates four bookstores and a warehouse in the mid-west and south-west. Frank O’Mahony confirmed yesterday book sales of holiday reads in the summer have dipped, attributing the drop to Ryanair’s baggage allowance.

The book chain last year returned to profit and Mr O’Mahony said the Ryanair baggage allowance is having a far bigger impact on sales of books than the sale of ebooks.
