Buoyant ISEQ breaks 3,000 mark

THE ISEQ index broke the 3,000 mark yesterday to end up 84.83 points at 3037.07, in line with European and world bourses.

Markets rallied as strong interest for Spanish and French bonds soothed worries over the eurozone debt crisis.

In the financial sector, Bank of Ireland added 1.2c to 10.4c. AIB gained 0.5c to 6.4c. Irish Life & Permanent increased 0.4c to 3c, while insurance group FBD Holdings dipped 10c to €7.10.

In the construction sector, the latest data from American Road Transportation Builders Association show that Highway/Bridge contract awards were broadly flat in December, following declines of 4% in November and 5% in October. CRH advanced 8c to €16.20. Grafton Group was 2c better at €2.651, while Kingspan was up 30c at €7.00.

In other news, Kerry Group progressed 60c to €28.70, Aer Lingus added 6c to 72c, while Elan shares slipped 9c to €10.44.
