Time to decide on the future of this country

THE next 12 months are, as Donald Rumsfeld might say, a known unknown.

But one thing we do know is that unless we mark a few cards, the ordinary taxpayers of this country will be no better off this time next year, and could even be worse off if things continue as they are.

When I was a youngster and used the argument that everyone else was doing something as a reason that I should be allowed do it, my mother would then reply, “Would you put your hand in the fire if other people did it?”
