ISEQ dips along with FTSE and DAX

THE ISEQ was one of 12 of the 18 national benchmark indexes to decline yesterday, falling 0.45% to 2,852.48.

In London, the FTSE 100 Index declined 5.3, or 0.1%, to 5,507.4 while Germany’s DAX fell 1.8%, France’s CAC 40 lost 0.7% and the Swiss Market Index added 0.1%.

It was a light trading day in Dublin with just €69.2m in shares traded compared to €141.29m on November 28.

Among the shares trading up was Elan, which hit a 52-week high of €10.44 but closing at €10.25. FBD Holdings, Fyffes, Irish Continental, Kerry Group and Paddy Power all closed higher. Explorations stocks Petrocelctic and Petroneft closed lower, as did Greencore.

MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan fell 0.9%, keeping it on track for a 2011 loss of 18%, underperforming a 12% decline in European shares and a 9% drop in world stocks .
