BOYNE Valley Foods has acquired the Irish division of British food group Premier Foods for €41.4 million.

Premier’s Irish business includes such well-known brands as Gateaux cakes, Erin soups, Chivers jams and jellies and McDonnell’s, which makes packet sauces and convenience snacks such as Pot Noodles.

The British firm owns some of the most identifiable consumer brands — including Ambrosia and Bird’s Custard, Hovis bread, Oxo, Mr Kipling cakes, Bisto gravy, Paxo stuffing, Loyd Grossman sauces and Sharwoods oriental condiments — and is ranked as the leading consumer food producer in Britain.
