Farmers urged to adopt new technologies to stay competitive

DAIRY leaders must adopt new technologies to remain competitive, according to Dr Pearse Lyons, the Irish-born president of US animal health corporation Alltech.

Farmers urged to adopt new technologies to stay competitive

The importance of adopting new technologies will be a core theme at Alltech’s Global Dairy 500 conference in Lexington, Kentucky, from December 6 to 8. Experts will detail how the global dairy sector is gearing up to cope with an anticipated surge in global demand for food.

Dr Lyons said: “Our world is changing. Global demand for fuel, food and other commodities will only continue to spike as the world’s population and wealth increases. The adoption of new technolo-gies is not optional any-more, but necessary if you want to stay competitive.

“It’s a world of transparency in which people develop strong personal impressions of companies and producers — and communicate their feelings through social media as well as with their neighbours. To succeed in this new environment, the dairy industry must be prepared and must be able to engage the minds of future generations.”

The agenda packs in everything the progressive dairy producer needs to know about the future of the industry.

Speakers will include: Karl Dawson, Alltech; Sam Leadley, Attica Veterinary Associates; Paul Gartner, Milk Upstream, Groupe Danone; Carl Chaney, Chaney’s Dairy Barn, US; and Troy and Stacy Hadrick, Advocates of Agriculture, US.
