VistaMed is to expand its research and development activities and manufacturing facilities in Carrick-on-Shannon.

Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton announced the €7.2 million investment and described the jobs as vital.

“However, this is also a significant day for the Irish economy,” he said.

“As I have said before, in order to create the jobs we so badly need we must not only deliver high levels of multinational investment, but also create an indigenous engine of growth by driving a step change in the performance of our domestic exporters.

“Indigenous exports provide three times more benefit to the Irish economy than multinational exports,” Mr Bruton said.

The investment was supported by the Government through Enterprise Ireland.

VistaMed designs, develops and manufactures complex catheters and complementary medical devices.

It has two bases in Carrick-on-Shannon and Rooskey.
