THE ISEQ started the new week with a gain of 22.27 points to 2,906.67.

Updated figures from the Central Bank show that all Irish banks’ ECB borrowings reduced from €106.1bn in April to €102.3bn in May.

In the financial sector, Bank of Ireland added 0.3c to 12.2c. AIB was flat at 16.9c. Irish Life & Permanent gained 0.5c to 7.3c, while insurance company FBD Holdings fell 1.9c to €7.40.

In the construction sector, CRH gained 19c to €14.27. Grafton Group fell 5c to €3.35, Kingspan slipped 0.1c to €7.24, while Abbey Group increased 5c to €5.10.

In other news, Athlone pharmaceutical company Elan jumped 15.6c to €7.33. Icon advanced 41c to €16.41. Paddy Power declined 29.5c to €35, while shipping company Irish Continental Group weakened 44.5c to close at €15.75.
