‘An Post behind on mail delivery targets’

AN POST is behind on its targets for mail delivery, according to regulator, ComReg.

In a report on 2010 it said a significant deficit still prevails between actual performance and An Post’s performance standard.

An Post delivered 85% of standard mail in Ireland within one working day last year, which is a one percentage point improvement on its service quality performance over 2009.

However, it falls short of the company’s targets of 94%.

The Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) found that 99% of all mail was delivered within three working days but this fell short of the target of 99.5%.

The survey excludes the two periods of severe weather conditions experienced in November and December.

“Despite the An Post performance standard of 94% being in place since 2004, a significant deficit still prevails between actual performance and An Post’s performance standard,” ComReg said.

The best performing mail flow in 2010 was posting from outside Dublin county to local with an 84% next day delivery score.

This score stands at 86% when the two periods of unusual weather are excluded from the measurement.

Items posted from outside Dublin to Dublin performed poorest in 2010 with a 79% next day delivery score.

When the two periods of unusual weather are excluded this figure stands at 83%, still the poorest performing mail flow.

ComReg is the national regulatory authority for the postal sector in Ireland.

The survey is based on a nationally representative sample of 28,487 test mail items, posted and delivered throughout Ireland.
