CONSUMERS and retailers are being urged to support 8,000 jobs in the pigmeat sector, from which half of total production is for the domestic market.

2fm presenter Hector O hEochagain is fronting a marketing drive by Bord Bia, the Irish Association of Pigmeat Processors (IAPP) and the Irish Farmers’ Association (IFA). The Bring Home the Bacon campaign will advise shoppers to look for the Bord Bia Quality Mark when shopping for pork, bacon and ham.

Bord Bia chief executive, Aidan Cotter, said at the launch in Dublin: “Our campaign is designed to illustrate the importance knowing the origin of our pork, bacon and ham products and to support the pig farming industry which is currently experiencing very difficult times.”
