CLOUD computing and data management specialists Quest Software is to announce the creation of 150 jobs in Cork today.

And the investment is expected to have the potential to grow to 300 jobs over the next three years, according to industry sources.

The IDA is very excited about the project, details of which will be unveiled by Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation Batt O’Keeffe at the Clarion Hotel.

A “touch down” team from NASDAQ-quoted Quest Software have been operating out of an office at Citygate in Mahon since before Christmas establishing a bridgehead for the company in Cork.

Quest Software is to set up an international shared services centre and it is expected the new jobs will come on stream over the next three years.

Quest Software already has a sales office in Dublin and the new Cork operation will be the key international service centre for the firm’s growth worldwide.

The jobs being created will be in finance, software renewals, inside sales and software development.

Quest which has a market capitalisation of $2.5 billion (€1.9bn) develops enterprise systems and network management software for businesses.

The cash-rich company, with more than 3,000 employees, is a prized acquisition for the IDA.

On its website Quest says it simplifies and reduces the cost of managing IT for more than 100,000 customers worldwide.

“Our innovations make solving the toughest IT management problems easier, enabling customers to save time and money across physical, virtual and cloud environments”. It says its products and time-saving services ease the toughest IT challenges for its 100,000 customers worldwide.

Quest Software has been on an expansion programme and already this month completed the $55 million all-cash acquisition of data protection software company BakBone Software, headquartered in San Diego.

The Aliso Viejo-based Quest is building up its intellectual property in cloud systems and storage management. In August 2010, Quest acquired private held cloud management specialist Surgient. In July 2010, the company picked up Völcker Informatik another privately held management solutions provider based in Germany.
