Euro slides to lowest in weeks

THE ISEQ index slipped 9.30 points to end the day at 2,646.00. The euro slid to its lowest in more than 10 weeks against the dollar, yen, Swiss franc and sterling as a weekend rescue deal for Ireland failed to ease worries that other eurozone countries may need help.

In the financial sector, AIB dropped 1c to 35.5c. Bank of Ireland added 0.7c to 31.4c. Irish Life & Permanent enjoyed another good day with a gain of 18.1c to €1.00, while insurance group FBD Holdings dipped 5c to 5.80.

In the construction sector, CRH fell back 20c to 13.40. Kingspan progressed 14.9c to 6.05. Grafton Group improved 1.5c to 2.908, while Abbey closed up 3c at 4.53.
