THE former holding company for the National Aquatic Centre more than halved its losses last year.

Dublin Waterworld’s losses more than halved

Dublin Waterworld Limited – which managed the Abbotstown, Co Dublin- based water sports facility from its opening in 2003 until 2005 – generated a loss of €52,855 for its last financial year, covering the 12 months to the end of June 2009. This figure was down from the previous year’s loss of €117,992.

According to Dublin Waterworld’s latest set of accounts lodged with the Companies Office, the company made an operating loss of €33,893 in its most recent fiscal year; down from an operating loss of €68,721 in the previous 12 months.

The company’s directors – Kieran Ruttledge, John Moriarty and Liam Bohan – said the group is not currently involved in the development of any new activities. It still counts “the development and management of water-based activities and international consultancy and property investment” as its principal activities.

However, the issue of roof damage which was sustained by the National Aquatic Centre in early 2005 during a bout of poor weather and which closed the facility for five months, only 18 months into its life-span, is still hanging over the company.
