TCH managing director announces retirement
Mr Dinan, 62, took staff by surprise yesterday when he personally informed employees of his decision to take early retirement, on completion of 30 years’ service, on June 30 next.
“I have decided to retire and I just want to thank everybody for the support that you have given over the years, for the way you have responded to change. For recent agreements, thank you for bringing that through. I want to wish everybody the very best for the future – the whole organisation,” he told Irish Examiner staff yesterday.
Mr Dinan joined the Irish Examiner in 1980 as financial controller and having held a number of positions, including human resources director, financial director and company secretary, he became managing director of Thomas Crosbie Holdings in 1994.
Thomas Crosbie Holdings chairman Alan Crosbie said: “Anthony served our company for 30 years with commitment and distinction. His impact on the company and on the media industry in Ireland was immense. I would like to thank Anthony for his contribution and wish him all the best in his retirement.”
Mr Dinan said that he feels he has regained two years and seven months of his life by deciding to take retirement now.
“I have a boat in Crosshaven. I was on it just once last year, I want to change that. I have a place in Portugal that I really like and I will spend more time there, too. I have worked for the last 44 years, I started at 18 – it has been high pressure for many of those years with not many breaks,” he said.
He oversaw the expansion of the company from being owners of the Irish Examiner, the Evening Echo and the Waterford News and Star to the owner of 15 regional newspapers, the Sunday Business Post, radio stations and online businesses.
