TAOISEACH Brian Cowen yesterday backed the concept of having an umbrella national brand for Irish food and drink products.

Professor David Bell and Mary Shelman, Harvard Business School, suggested the move in a Bord Bia commissioned report on the industry.

“Bord Bia has, of course, successfully promoted quality food from Ireland – the Food Island, highlighting our unique natural characteristics and reputable quality assurance schemes,” Mr Cowen said.
