Dublin: Budding entrepreneurs are battling it out for a cash award of up to €100,000 in memory of Arthur Guinness.

Diageo Ireland has revealed 26 projects have been shortlisted for the Arthur Guinness Fund, which was set up to mark the 250th anniversary of the world famous St James’s Gate Brewery.

Managing director John Kennedy said the fund was the company’s way of ensuring Arthur’s social philanthropy was celebrated and continued.

“Diageo Ireland recognises the impact social entrepreneurs have today in making innovative contributions to the social fabric of society and all ourjudges have been hugely impressed with the submissions,” he added.

Almost 500 projects have applied for funding since October, with a shortlist of 26 going through to an interview process with high-profile names from the world of business and the arts.
