Kenmare Resources to raise production in Mozambique

MINING company Kenmare Resources is hopeful of significantly increasing production levels at its Moma Titanium Minerals mine in Mozambique and extending the asset into a neighbouring resource containing 140 million tonnes of heavy minerals. In a trading update, Kenmare said it produced nearly 560,000 tonnes of ilmenite at Moma last year and should pass 700,000 tonnes in 2010.

The fourth quarter of 2009 alone saw overall heavy mineral concentrate production increase by 22% at the mine.

“With the completion of the recent exploration study, the company has taken an important first step towards putting itself in a position to further capitalise on this market opportunity should it seek to do so,” said chairman Charles Carvill.
