Walshe says Irish agriculture can benefit from British opportunities

IRISH agriculture has a key strategic role in contributing to British and European Union food security, the Irish Farmers Association president Padraig Walshe declared yesterday.

He was responding to the launch of the British government’s food strategy, Food 2030, which Environment, Food and Rural Affairs secretary Hilary Benn launched at the Oxford Farming Conference earlier this week.

Mr Walshe said policymakers in Britain and across the developed world have begun to realise that food supply can no longer be taken for granted. In addition, food must be produced in a sustainable manner.
