Angry private shareholders, some who have lost their entire nest eggs to see them through their old age, shouted “Go, go go” as soon as bank chairman Richard Burrows took to the podium.

As the meeting settled down one shareholder told how a woman living in a nursing home had sold her home to pay for her long-term care.
