Market up on government packages

THE Irish market began the week in positive territory in line with markets worldwide.

This followed news of further government-backed rescue packages across the world aimed at stimulating deflated financial markets. The ISEQ Index surged 144.89 points to close at 2,625.95.

In the financial sector all four main banks finished in the black.
