THE idea of having a common standard for farmers’ markets is being mooted by Horticulture and Food Minister Trevor Sargent.

He said guidelines could possibly be developed along lines similar to the green flags in schools, blue flags for beaches or the number of stars that apply to hotels.

Minister Sargent said there are many advantages for a farmers’ market to have a flag displaying one, two or three stars.
